Join us at the May luncheon event for a presentation and Q&A session with City of Cleveland Planning Commission Director Robert Brown.
Brown will discuss the current initiatives taking place within his organization to strengthen and grow the City of Cleveland. His presentation will focus specifically on the sustainable re-use of the city's vacant land and the role this will play in the strategy for creating a stronger city despite the loss of population.
Robert Brown, as director of the City Planning Commission, is responsible for helping to shape Mayor Jackson's vision for improving the quality of life in Cleveland's neighborhoods and creating a vibrant 24-hour downtown. He and his 25-member staff accomplish this through neighborhood and comprehensive planning, zoning code and map updates, development projects facilitation, and research and data analysis. The Connecting Cleveland 2020 Citywide Plan, a plan for the future of Cleveland's neighborhoods, is the most intensive project he and his staff currently lead.
Brown began his service with the City of Cleveland as Assistant Director of City Planning in 1985. Prior to joining the City, he was a Managing Planner for the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission, where he worked for nine years.
Staying in touch with the latest trends and issues in City Planning, Brown has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners since it was founded in 1978. He participates in our civic community by serving on the Governing Board for NOAC representing Mayor Frank G. Jackson on the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission, and speaking at many local and national planning conferences and workshops.
Brown received his bachelor's degree in urban studies from Case Western Reserve University in 1973 and participated in Columbia University's M.S. program in urban planning.
