"Idea Center – Pioneering Ideas Spur Innovative Design"

Program Synopsis:  The groundbreaking partnership between ideastream (achieved through the merger of two public broadcasting stations WVIZ/PBS and 90.3 WCPN) and Playhouse Square Foundation led to the emergence of the Idea Center. More than just a building, it is the embodiment of collaboration and inspiration, dedicated to enhancing creative thinking and learning in Northeast Ohio via information, education, arts and technology.

Originally designed in 1912 by Walker & Weeks, the One Playhouse Square Building is rich in history, with previous tenants including the Cleveland Public Library, Stouffer’s corporate headquarters, and WJW radio, where Alan Freed first coined the term “rock ‘n’ roll.” The building fell into disrepair and was donated to Playhouse Square Foundation in 1999.

Come tour this historic gem and meet the project team behind its renovation and transformation into The Idea Center, a new cultural hub in Northeast Ohio and one of the first buildings in Ohio to achieve LEED Commercial Interiors Silver certification.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., lunch is served at 12:00 noon, the presentation begins shortly thereafter. (The meeting will be followed by a tour of the facility for those who wish to participate.)
