SMPS has conducted a practice analysis of professional services marketing to articulate and confirm the profession's body of knowledge and the skills critical to professional competence. These knowledge and skill sets are classified under six domains:

The domains of practice are the foundation of SMPS' Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) Program.
